First, you need to find two opposite corners of the space you want to cover. If your house is regular, such as a rectangle, either diagonal will work. However, when it is not regular, you should try to find the longest distance between the two ends of your house. Note that it would be easier to set up if there are few obstructions between the two selected corners.
Also, you should measure the distance between the two corners to find out the length required for the link cable. The wire is nothing special. It is a simple conductor, so any 14 or 16 AWG stranded wire terminated with standard 4 mm banana plugs will do.
